South Lockport Fire Co., Inc.

Proudly serving the Town of Lockport since 1943

Volunteer Opportunities

All of the fire companies that serve the Town of Lockport are 100% volunteer and we need your help! Along with required training for all members, which is paid for in full by the company, there are other requirements for active membership. For your first year, you will be on a probationary period after which your full membership comes to a vote of our membership. In order to remain active, you will be required to attend at least:

  • One company meeting per quarter (currently held on the first Monday evening of every month)
  • One drill per month (currently held every Thursday morning and evening)
  • One social function per quarter
  • 10% of fire or EMS calls, calculated annually as set forth in the Town of Lockport's Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP)

New firefighters must begin either Firefighter I or BEFO within the first year, with completion to be done prior to the end of their second year. After the end of a new firefighter's probationary period, they will also be eligible to start New York's EMT class. All training is free to members.

In order to be a member of the fire company, all applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED, or be 21 years of age.
Interested applicants over the age of 14, are eligible to join our Explorer Post. and over the age of 16 our Restricted Firefighter membership class
  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • Be a resident of the City or Town of Lockport or have residence within reasonable response distance.
  • Not have any arson convictions or other felony convictions.
